Improving the Garden

Since the mid-1960’s, the flower garden has been a major centerpiece of The Lord’s Land. It continues to be a favorite spot for morning reading and afternoon picnics.

We are always looking for ways to improve the flower garden, and there are limitless ways to do this. The only limitations we have are time and hands.

Countless volunteers have helped in the flower garden over the years. There are always weeds to pull, new beds to prepare, and new seeds to plant.

Do you have an eye for beauty or a green thumb? Do you love to get your hands dirty? If so download an application today, or call our office at (707) 937-5700. Ask for Todd or Cindi.

Prayer Bunker

One of our core desires is for The Lord’s Land to be a dwelling place–a habitation–for God’s Spirit. We want this land to be irresistible to the Holy Spirit. This happens when we commit to a lifestyle of prayer. As a ministry, we have been energized by the recent worldwide movement of 24/7 prayer. Ministries such as IHOP (International House of Prayer) in Kansas City have inspired us. We want the entire Lord’s Land to be soaked in the presence of God. To this effort, we want to introduce The Prayer Bunker.

Once upon a time, it used to be called Bunk House, and we used to rent it out. But we think it would be better used as a 24-7 prayer chapel of sorts.

Prayer Bunker has some serious foundation and floor troubles. Right now, it isn’t usable for anything. We have already begun to correct the foundation, but there’s a long way to go.

We want Prayer Bunker to be a comfortable place that’s always open and ready for intercessors any time of day or night. We’ll have worship music playing around the clock, comfortable seating, and lots of excellent reading material on prayer. It will be open for our guests and our staff.

Do you have building or decorating skills? Do you want to help us make the Prayer Bunker reach its potential? If so download an application today, or call our office at (707) 937-5700. Ask for Todd or Nathan.

The Prayer Trail

At the Lord’s Land, we like to pray.

That’s why we’re excited about The Prayer Trail (not to be confused with the trail to Prayer Cabin, which is called “Russian Trail.”)

The Prayer Trail, a brainchild of our very own Eric Brockmeier, will give our guests a quiet, peaceful path where they can be alone and give their troubles to the Lord. The trail will wind its way through the forest of redwoods and firs, stretching all the way from Woodbutcher Trail to Deer Cabin’s driveway. Eric began the trail 2 years ago, but much of his progress was erased by last January’s vicious storm.

Eric envisions resting places along the way. There will be benches that peek out over the valley, and scripture plaques that emphasize ideas for prayer focuses. It’s going to be awesome!

We look forward to seeing the Prayer Trail develop into something special. Do you want to help Eric’s vision come true? If so, download an application today, or call our office at (707) 937-5700. Ask for Eric.

General Trail Maintenance

Deer, Faith, Jay, Bear, Woodbutcher, Raccoon and Prayer…What do they all have in common?

They all have trails that need maintenance and lighting. The maintenance is obvious. Storms come and knock limbs down, and erosion begins to have its way. Our trail lights have been damaged on almost every trail, and we need to find better, long-term solutions.

Do you have experience working with trail work or landscaping? Are you inspired to help us improve these unique assets? Or do you just feel bad for the poor souls who check in after dark? If so, download an application today, or call our office at (707) 937-5700. Ask for Todd.

Handyman Projects

fence

Are you good at repairing fences or fixing leaky faucets? We are always on the lookout for handymen at the Lord’s Land.

Besides basic maintenance, there are some lingering projects that we have been putting on the back shelf ever since the big storm in January. Our big gate into Big House yard was damaged, as was much of the children’s equipment next to the office.

So what about you? Do you have a knack for problem solving and a broad range of skills? If so download an application today, or call our office at (707) 937-5700. Ask for Todd or Nathan.

Sewing Projects

Do you love to sew? Great. Because we need some curtains. As you can see here, our new Welcome Center needs some help with the glaring light. And beyond that, many of our cabin curtains have been worn out with time and use. Anyone who has stayed in Raccoon, Woodbutcher or Garden lately could vouch for that. We want to put some new lasting, creative touches to brighten (or should I say darken???) the place up.

Do you want to put your unique fingerprints on the Lord’s Land windows? If so, download an application today, or call our office at (707) 937-5700. Ask for Todd or Cindi.

Electrical Boxes

You know there’s a problem when you have to unplug your coffee pot in order to run your microwave…

Yeah, we’ve got some electrical problems. We’ve come along way in the past couple of years, but Stump and Woodbutcher in particular have some issues. Are you an electrician who can give us a hand? If so, download an application today, or call our office at (707) 937-5700. Ask for Todd or Nathan.

Library Shelves

The Lord’s Land Library is one of the newer structures on the Land, and one which we have high hopes for. We would like it to be a highly useful resource for our staff, volunteers, and guests. As you can see, it’s a bit cluttered right now :)

We would like to get rid of these industrial-style shelves and make this library more “Lord’s Land-ian.” In other words, we’d like to have our own shelves built in from floor to ceiling. Lumber isn’t a problem. We have lots of of lumber. What we need is the labor.

What about you? Are you a skilled cabinent-maker or carpenter who would like to put your mark on the Lord’s Land? If so, download an application today, or call our office at (707) 937-5700. Ask for Cindi.

Finishing the Ball Room

If you’ve seen our Building Project updates, you’re familiar with this project. For a very long time, the Lord’s Land has desperately needed a meeting room. So last spring, we went to work, demolishing the old laundry room and constructing a room big enough to accommodate large groups.

In December, construction of “The Ball Room” (named for Sabine Ball of course, and for the celebratory spirit we hope always exudes from within its walls) stalled due to lack of funds and labor. That didn’t stop us from using the building for countless seminars and gatherings. Since that time, we have added windows and doors, but the rest of the building remains unfinished. We need to add flooring, insulation, sheetrock and siding. Those are the big steps. We also need to build a hearth for the woodstove, a front deck, and work on the interior.

We will continue to use the building in its unfinished state. But boy, we would love to get it finished!

Does this project pique your interest? Do you have the skills and the willingness to help us finish the Ball Room once and for all? If so, download an application today, or call our office at (707) 937-5700. Ask for Todd or Nathan.

Woodbutcher's Foundation

Woodbutcher is one of the crown jewels of the Lord’s Land. Originally constructed for Sabine Ball herself, Woodbutcher was built out of a single Redwood log without the help of power-tools or nails. And it was on the floor of this cabin that Sabine knelt down and submitted her life to Jesus.

Forty years later, the cabin remains a work of art. But Woodbutcher needs some love. Particularly the foundation. As you can see from the pictures below (click them to enlarge), some of the supports are completely rotted through, and the deck is too unsafe to even be open to guests.

Because of this cabin’s special history, Sabine herself is very eager to see this cabin repaired. But the job needs to be done right, by someone who understands foundations. Are you a builder who has expertise that could help here? If so, download an application today, or call our office at (707) 937-5700. Ask for Todd or Nathan.
